About Me
I’m Jonathan Jamieson, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Strathclyde. This website is about me; the things I’ve done and the stuff I’ve made. I live in Scotland and split my time between Glasgow and my hometown of Dumfries.
If I had to describe myself in one word it would be: Maker. The process of making something, going from an original idea to seeing your hard work finished is very satisfying. I have to admit to making things I don’t really intend to use but I don’t feel guilty about this. Like many children I enjoyed taking things apart to learn how they worked (and for a bit of destruction) but building something is the best way of understanding it. I think that’s why engineering as a career appealed so much because you learn in detail how the world works.
I’ve made a variety of different things and I’m trying to learn new skills. If I had to choose a quote to live by it would be:
Jack of all trades, master of none, very often better than master of one.
I’ve tried many sports and activities because I think a wide range of experiences is a great thing to have.
I’ve been interested in technology from an early age. I was using the first family computer at 6 years old and have not stopped since then. I mainly use computers for researching projects and getting ideas. The internet is a fantastic resource where you can get expert information on just about anything which is handy when you’re trying to find an obscure part for a project. My links section has some of my favourite websites.
This website is mostly about what I’ve done and the past so here is a short list of things I want to do but haven’t yet. It’s not in any particular order and is by no means complete:
- Skydiving
Run a marathon- Learn to juggle 5 balls
- Build some sort of human transportation device
- Learn to weld
