Gripper (Robotic Arm)
I’ve fancied making a Robotic Arm for a while and when 6 SG90 servos turned up that I’d ordered from eBay a month or two ago (they were from Hong Kong) I decided now was the time to do make it.
It’s finished except for the jaw which I will remake as the current one is not very effective at picking things up.
It’s good fun to play with and it’s small size makes it ideal as a desktop toy. Unfortunately my desk is now full of small toys I’ve made and I’m going to have to find a new place to keep some of them!
I made a prototype that was controlled with through infra-red by a TV remote but it wasn’t much fun to use because it was slow to make changes in the arm’s position. The prototype was quite rough and although it was a similar design to the final one it was held together with double sided sticky foam.
The main electronic parts are: 5x SG90 servos, 3x slide potentiometers, 2x rotational potentiometers, 1x 20X2 Picaxe microcontroller, 1x DPDT switch, 1x mini red led.
The code for it is very simple but if you want it then you can download it here: Code for Gripper (Robotic Arm)
