I did a tandem flight in France back in 2006 and enjoyed the experience but it’s not the same as going solo! It’s possible to learn paragliding in the UK but our weather is so inconsistent it can take a long time. A few people recommended going abroad so I booked a trip to Morocco and did a week long Elementary Pilot course with Sky Paragliding.
The tuition was excellent and couldn’t think of many better ways to spend a week. By the end of the week I completed 5 flights and completed the Elementary Pilot requirements. Will I start the next level of training? No, absolutely probably not. I have a complicated relationship with heights! After watching some sketchy takeoffs, talking to experienced pilots, looking at the high entry level costs I have decided it’s not the sport for me.
I was the only person in our group not keen to continue and I did have a lot of fun. If you’re interested then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend trying a tandem flight or booking the same course I did.
